I’m a young girl learning taekwondo and aikido. Recently, I had a quarrel with a big, fat, stupid but rich girl. When she was angrily trying to slap me, I easily counter with taekwondo kick. She fell and start crying. That time I think I’m an expert, but then proved wrong :(
The girl’s father, watched her daughter being kicked. He was a big, fat man. He got angry and attacked me. I got panic, and try another kick. While my kick accurate, but didn’t stop him from come closer. I tried desperately my akikido but also failed, and he push me down to the ground, put his hands on my neck, and strangulate me. I was very scared and crying. As result, i got broken ribs and nearly dead by strangulation.
Why my taekwondo and aikido failed to stop the angry father from attacking me?
u probaly was just to scared. u should press charges a man has no business hittin a women who is defending herself against another women.
Here are some other panic attack related sites that I thought would be of interest to you. Thanks for checking out my blog!

aikido can be used by anyone, anysize. use their momentum against them. don’t kick, you have less balance and are more vulnerable to attacks

Sometimes your attacker is too big and too strong. When this happens, run away. It’s ok to run away. But if your life is in danger, you need to learn Tae Kwon Do moves that will disable a grown man.

Because you have to be very good at it to actually defend yourself from someone that much heavier than you, it’s OK to keep a bully at legs length but not if they are twice your size. Probably not the answer you want, but Tai Chi teaches you to use your opponants strength against them when you practice ‘pushing hands’
If you think that’s not a fast enough work out or whatever, I think Ju Jitsu works on a similar principal, have a wee look at that.

How old are you?
It is very possible that no matter how much technique you have you just haven’t quite got the muscle yet. young boy or girl who is very talented in any martial art would really struggle to knock down someone who is twice the size of them. – don’t get me wrong when you are older will prolly probbly then have the strength to over power someone bigger than you, as it is true with martial arts size does not matter it is skill – however there is a limit until you are fully developed.
In a situation like the one you explained, a swift kick in the balls and run is always the best bet.
always remember the most intelligent fighters will walk away before any blows.
Hope this helped!

you can be a good martial-artist.but this is not compelssory that you will win forever.we have power and speed in our kicks and punches.but the lack of confidence is main root of quarrel. so i will consult u my friend that u should collect a lot of self confidence in your heart and mind, instead of it,u should take the class of jeet kune do. this is a great martial art of little dragon bruce lee.
jeet kune do or jkd is not a sport like taekwondo of judo.it is a pure and spiritual martial art for every one.

it is my own opinion.
I guess he was just too big and strong. From what you say, it seems good that you only used martial arts in self-defence, but I think you weren’t ready to really use them. If you have space also, and your opponent is too big for you to stop, you should run! That’s not cowardice, it’s just sensible.
This man choked you and broke your ribs? He needs to be reported to the police! Tell your parents, they will help you.
There are martial arts techniques just for girls though- I think moves exist within Taekwando itself, so just ask your teacher. There’s also a Japanese art, where you learn to fight with a kind of spear, or ‘Naginata’. That’s specifically for women, because the men largely learnt to use swords back in the day.

martail art is not just abut being perfect kicks and punch
the technique and timing and place also matters
i guess ur not strong enough for that kid of man
but if u had kicked him on his chalf he would have fallen for sure
by the way , martial arts teaching says there should be no misuse of it
it is only for self defence
i would love fighting with u any day

there is nothing wrong with your techniques. Sometimes the other person is more stronger then you are. I think that you should sue the rich man for a lot of money because he should never had attacked you in the first place no matter what. you are young and that is just plain wrong. sue his a*s for a lot of money and keep practicing you martial arts

the problem is Tae Kwon Do is mostly for sport. And Aikido
is limited on how to defend yourself in a real fight.
In a real fight there are no rules. And the person you fight will not cooperate with you so your technique will
look pretty. did you bite, or poke his eyes, or pull hair,
did you know what to do when on you back. Did it accrue to
you to run. No you was overwhelmed because you were not taught the reality of a street fight. Don’t get me wrong I know and respect great fighters in just about every art out there. but what made them great is that they did not limit themselves to an art. They would ask questions about other arts, and read books. They keep journals about what there mistakes were, and what they learnt from others. You can stay faithful to the arts you choose and learn. That’s
what martial arts is all about personal growth. there are no special one size fits all techniques, but only learning the cause of our ignorance and hard work. Good luck!
P .S I would suggest reading about Jeet Kune DO, Junsado,
Krav Maga. Well that will get you started also they have DVDs

Tae Kwon do is fine. Try a front kick to the nuts. Side kick, or roundhouse kick. A knife hand strike or ridge hand strike to the throat would also do the trick. Don’t forget kicking in the shins, or stomping feet. Akido will not work with a child and an adult. Call the police, and a Lawyer and sue the sh*t out of him for beating a girl.

There are a number of issues here:
1. It takes time to become proficient in Tae Kwon Do and Aikido. I’ve heard Aikido doesn’t become useful for self defense until after you trained consistently for about 5 years. Tae Kwon Do takes couple of years too. You have to give yourself time to develop.
2. Kicking power comes from three sources. Speed, Weight, and Chi. You probably don’t weigh very much and since you seem like you are just starting out your are probably not very fast with your kicks yet. So you have to work on the heavy bag making your kicks faster and therefore more powerful. And you must learn to get your weight behind your kicks. Ask your teacher about that. Chi is another matter. Number three will answer that.
3. Women are usually not as physically strong or as aggresive as men. To make up the difference you must learn to use your internal power or Chi. You can channel this energy into your punchs and kicks to devestating effect. This comes through breathing exercises. Ask your Aikido teacher about this.
4. You also need to start realistic sparring to help you resist fear.
5. The next time you fight a man attack his eyes and groin. Do kicks to the ribs.
I’m sorry that happened to you. Angry men can be very strong. Don’t be discouraged if you train hard you will become more effective.
By the way….You might want to consider Wing Chun Kung Fu. The legend is the a female monk taught this style to a young woman so she could defeat a thuggish man.

c) you were scared

aikido principle number 2, if you can’t break his arm, break his finger. and yup! kusasiawash was right! you should have kicked his groin.
anyway, you shouldn’t really be going on trying to beat people up like that. learning martial arts requires discipline, especially in controlling your temper.

When you’re being attacked by a man who’s not only bigger, but also heavier than you, you have to move faster and if possible, grab a stick or something. You should learn how to use weapons: staff, nunchucks, etc.
I’m against violence, but this guy deserves a lesson. Try learning kung fu.

Try athletics you should of ran away when you had chance.
Trouble with parcticing most martial arts is you expect to be attacked in a certain way and normaly by some one of the same weight . The most part of self defence is avoidance (awarness) so the situation doesn’t have chance to develop. Geoff Tompson has a good book on this called dead or alive which goes into how to scale threats and gives practical techniques.
Pre emptive striking is not against the law in this country so if you belive your life to be in danger you can hit them first don’t wait for them to grab/hit you. tkd is a long predomatley kicking art once inside your guard you are going to be at a disadvantage as I belive their is little grappling in either tkd or akido so you won’t be use to fighting on the floor. Develop you short range arsenel practice punching and slapping as hard as you can agains a bag or pad to develpe you power transferal. Get the person with the pad to wind you up by shouting at you an saying annoying things so you get used to that and hopefully can stop your self from panicing if it ever happens again. do you realy want to stand on one leg when your being attacked? Keep kicks low below the waist go for sweeps and attack the knees or use your knees to strike with . soft to hard, hard to soft . Ask your self what happend? go through it again right from the start before the argument and see if there is any way the situation could of been avoided were there any signals that indicated what was about to happen. Then think about how you might handel the situation better if in a simular situation in the future learn from it.
