what is the best way to treat panic attacks? pills or therapy?

The combination is best. Until recently, it was thought that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy worked best, but it appears now that the combination of CBT and meds is best. In general stay away from benzodiazepines (valium, xanax, etc) though, an antidepressant doesn’t work as fast but will be much more helpful in the long run. If you need to use an occassional benzo try Ativan.

Visit the Anxiety Disorders Association of American (www.adaa.org) to find someone who specializes in Panic in your area.

Both. A therapist will help you deal with them. Pills will relax you so you wont feel like you cant breathe

Both! Therapy first and pills for while you are still learning and getting used to overcoming the attacks.

i found that cognitive behavioral therapy worked wonders! instead of just seeing a therapist – find one that specialized in anxiety and panic disorder.
